Allocation of resources in a divisionalized firm

چکیده
This paper addresses the problem of allocating resources in a divisionalized firm. The firm consists of II distinct divisions. Inputs have to be allocated across the divisions and the profit function of each division may in general depend on the whole allocation of inputs. The manager of the firm does not know the divisional profit functions and yet would like to allocate resources in a profit-maximizing way. We construct a mechanism whose Nash equilibria generate a profit-maximizing allocation of inputs as well as a system of (endogenously determined) transfer prices. Furthermore, the mechanism uses smaller strategy spaces and intuitively more acceptable evaluation measures than those proposed previously.

A Tabu Search Based Solution Approach to the Competitive Multiple Allocation Hub Location Problem
The hub location problems (HLP) constitute an important class of facility location problems that have been addressed by numerous operations researchers in recent years. HLP is a strategic problem frequently encountered in designing logistics and transportation networks. Here, we address the competitive multiple allocation HLP in a duopoly market. It is assumed that an incumbent firm (the leader...

This paper examines the choice between direct and absorption costing in a cost-based transfer pricing system for duopolistic firms competing with product market prices. Existing literature has shown that the adoption of an absorption costing system, which drives up the intrafirm transfer price, strategically dominates direct costing for the two firms, regardless of whether the transfer price is ...

Resource Allocation and Firm Scope We develop a theory of firm scope in which integrating two firms into one facilitates the allocation of resources, but leads to weaker incentives for effort, compared with nonintegration. Our theory makes minimal assumptions about the underlying agency problem. Moreover, the benefits and costs of integration originate from the same problem – to allocate resour...
